A unique program to plant corals in the Bavaro area was recently launched by the La Altagracia Tourism Cluster, the Fiesta hotel group and the National Authority on Maritime Issues from the Dominican Republic (ANAMAR).  Two specific coral species currently on the endangered list will be used for this particular program.

One of the program’s main goals is to motivate and encourage other companies and hotels in the area to participate in this important drive.  Another important goal is to encourage community participation.  Also, by protecting and caring for the nearby coral reefs, the program hopes to help directly and indirectly with the region’s biodiversity issues.

The program will also include educational workshops and consciousness-raising on the need to protect marine wildlife and resources.  During the third week of June two experts from the University of Miami will offer workshops on this particular program.
