Chinese capital in Punta Perla

CEI-RD explained recently that one of the reasons why 2010 was an important year in the tourism industry was due to the entry of Chinese capital into the Dominican Republic.  In total, the Chinese announced that it invested some US$462 million in the Punta Perla tourism project, located in the tourist area of Punta Cana, in the country’s eastern region.

The Dominican investment council also explained that another source of foreign investment to the Dominican Republic came in through the Swedish multinational corporation IKEA, with annual sales that total 20 billion euros in 24 countries.  Other important investments in the DR was the Gems Cap Cana, owned by the US-based AM Resorts, with a total investment of US$400 million for the construction of four hotels in the country’s eastern region.
